The new Work Health and Safety Act and Regulations introduced into Australia mirror the safety regulations that came into effect in the UK and Europe throughout the 1990s. Western Australia was one of the last states to pass their Work Health & Safety Act late in 2021 with the Regulations commencing in 2022. These largely replace the previous Occupation Health and Safety Acts in each state and are more prescriptive and contain criminal penalties for non-compliance.
